"The highlights of my job are the patient and relative contact."

Carole Scully

Carole Scully has been a team Leader at the Marie Curie Hospice in Liverpool for six years. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Stanley Ward – a role that involves hands-on nursing, staff management, support and training.

Carole joined Marie Curie Cancer Care in 1985 after taking a five-year break from nursing to have her children.

Carole said: “I got involved with caring for terminally ill people as an agency nurse and really took it to heart – it's hard not too. A vacancy came up at the Marie Curie Hospice and I got it on a part-time basis. I converted to general nursing, became an E grade, applied for an F grade and got it.

I feel lucky and honoured to nurse people coming to the end of their lives. I would say the highlights of my job are working with patients, their families and my supportive colleagues.”
