My job - Liz Atterson
Healthcare Assistant of the Year, Scotland
"It offers variety, flexibility and a range of training opportunities..."
Liz Atterson
Liz Atterson is Marie Curie Cancer Care's Healthcare Assistant of the Year for Scotland. She has worked for the charity for over seven years and covers the entire Highlands area.
Prior to joining the charity she worked as a nursing auxiliary with the British Nursing Association, often caring for terminally ill people.
Liz said: “I've always been interested in nursing, especially terminal care. I wanted to be able to comfort families in harrowing times and help patients make the most of the time they have left.
A District Nurse suggested I join Marie Curie Cancer Care and I've never looked back. The role of Healthcare Assistant is a very valuable one and I thoroughly enjoy the work I do. It offers variety, flexibility and a range of training opportunities, but most of all you can be a real support to the family and that gives me the kind of job satisfaction you won't find anywhere else.”
