Nursing hours reach a new high

Marie Curie Cancer Care provided 71,885 hours of nursing in July 2006 – the best figure for the month of July for five years.

In August we did even better – providing 74,269 hours of nursing care.

The results continue a rising trend, which over the financial year 2005/06 saw nursing hours reach 961,000 – up six per cent on the previous year.

Director of Patient and Family Services Susan Munroe said: “This is good news.

Ensuring we continue to provide more nursing to more patients in their homes is one of our core objectives. It’s a vital part of ensuring patients have the choice to die at home.

“We are continuing to take measures to increase nursing provision throughout the UK, and we hope to have more good news in future months.”
