The Yellow Book 2008
Last year the scheme raised over £2 million for charity, with Marie Curie Cancer Care being a major beneficiary.
The book features over 3,600 gardens to visit, from a small London Regency rooftop, accessed via 65 steps and with views of St. Paul’s Cathedral, to Barnards Farm in Essex, which features sculptures from Antony Gormley, Elizabeth Frink and Thomas Heatherwick.
The average cost of admission is £3.00, with prices varying from £2.00 to £5.00. Children aged 16 and under are admitted for free.
Marie Curie Cancer Care Chief Executive Thomas Hughes Hallett said: “The National Gardens Scheme gives Marie Curie Cancer Care one of its largest annual donations, and we are very proud of their support of over a decade.
“I’d like to thank each and every one of the huge number of people who take part and assist in the scheme’s amazing success.
“I can think of few more enjoyable ways to support charities than by visiting some of the spectacular private gardens offered as part of the scheme – I wish them every continuing success with their work.”
Founded in 1927, the scheme has raised over £22 million for charity over the last 10 years.
