Big Spring Clean launched

Marie Curie Cancer Care has launched its 2008 Big Spring Clean, which encourages people to support the charity by recycling their unwanted items.

A brand new website has been designed to show people how they can get involved, from donating old mobile phones and ink cartridges to handing in foreign coins left over from their holidays.

The charity has also teamed up with Laura Ashley to ask the public to donate their old or damaged jewellery, which can be handed in to Laura Ashley stores or to Marie Curie Shops.

The jewellery scheme ties in with the Marie Curie Cancer Care’s 60th anniversary, as in 1948 the charity was founded on the donation of a diamond engagement ring. The £75 it raised at auction would be the equivalent of around £5,762 today.

Fundraising Marketing and Development Manager Mil Milward said: “Join in our Big Spring Clean by clearing out your clutter and paying a visit to your local Marie Curie Shop.

“Our new website is packed with ideas and everything you donate will help our nurses provide even more hours of free care to terminally ill patients.

“And don’t forget our free Bag for Life offer, available when you spend £10 or more in any Marie Curie Shop.”
