Hospice horse triggers owner hunt

Staff at the Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth are used to unexpected referrals, but even they were surprised when a lost horse called Trigger wandered into reception.

Receptionist Michelle Partridge and Ward Manager Ann Coodye were quick to act, escorting the bewildered animal out of the car park to a quiet spot behind the hospice building.

Catering staff provided carrots and apples for the unexpected guest while the RSPCA were called.

Eventually the Highways Department was able to send out a local horse expert, who looked after Trigger until his owners were tracked down.

Clinical Services Manager Jill Templeman said: “We carefully assess all our patients and look at how best to meet their needs, and Trigger was no exception.

“However we do have a robust discharge policy, so he had to realise that we could not keep him on as a patient indefinitely.”

Trigger is now back in his proper place of care.
