Not only will staff be fundraising for the charity over the next 12 months, but the company has pledged a £25,000 donation to kick off the partnership.

BBC Midlands Today newsreader Nick Owen was on hand to help launch the partnership at the Mitchell & Butlers head office in Birmingham.

He saw staff take part in a raffle and doughnut sale, raising £400 towards the office’s £10,000 fundraising target.

Company HR Director Chris Edgar said: “We’re looking forward to working with Marie Curie Cancer Care and, in particular, supporting the provision of nursing hours across the UK.

“Mitchells & Butlers pubs are at the heart of hundreds of communities throughout the country and we’re committed to giving something back to those communities.”

Marie Curie Cancer Care Director of Fundraising Sandra Osborne said: “The generous support of Mitchells & Butlers and their staff will help provide nursing care at home for terminally ill patients and support for their families.

“Most people would want to die at home if they were terminally ill and Marie Curie Nurses enable them to do this - to be where they want to be, surrounded by the people and things they love.”
