Record nursing figures announced

Latest figures have revealed that in February this year the Marie Curie Nursing Service delivered the highest number of hours ever recorded for that month.

Nursing figures for February were up eight
per cent on last year

This year Marie Curie Nurses and Healthcare Assistants in England, Scotland and Wales delivered 79,702.77 hours of care to 2,076 patients compared to 65,084 hours of care to 1,710 patients in February 2007.

In Northern Ireland the figures increased from 4,845.17 hours of care to 111 patients to 5,655 hours of care to 132 patients.

The figures are well above the February 2008 target of 75,523.5 hours and 1,967 which was based on an eight per cent increase on February 2007’s figures.

Susan Munroe said: “This is a fantastic result. I know we had an extra day this February with it being a leap year but nonetheless I think it is great that we have been able to look after so many more people.

"What this really means is that many more people are being supported to achieve their wish to die at home.”
