Strategic plan launched

Today sees the launch of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s new strategic plan - We Put Patients and Families First.

The We put patients and families first cover

It is the charity’s blueprint for all its activities through to 2011 and focuses on three core themes - Delivering Growth, Improving Lives and Securing the Future.

Key aims within the strategy include a doubling of the Marie Curie Nursing Service, big increases in care and support for patients through our hospices and continued growth in fundraising.

Introducing the plan, Chief Executive Tom Hughes-Hallett writes: “In recent years, Marie Curie Cancer Care has made huge progress in providing more and better care for patients and their families.

“And we must continue to do what we do well. But development and innovation in care will be crucial going forward.

We Put Patients and Families First is our blueprint for the future. Every one of us has a part to play in ensuring we deliver.”

Strategy and Policy Advisor Roger Paffard said: “Developing the strategic plan has been an exciting process. The energy and ambition throughout the charity have been apparent since we started work on it last summer.

“Despite progress in recent years, Britain has one of the poorest services in Europe for end of life patients. This strategic plan will enable us to reach more patients and their families and provide much needed quality care and support.”
