The event challenges people to swim between 1.5km and 5km, depending on their swimming ability.

Others have taken the Simply Swim option, which allows them to swim any distance they like in any pool.

Last year over 14,000 swimmers took part, raising almost £1 million for the charity, and this year supporters are hoping to do even better.

Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraising Director Sandra Osborne said: “I would like to wish all swimmers the best of luck with their individual and team challenges.

“Everyone taking part should be really proud to be involved in such a wonderful event which we hope will raise over £1.2m for Marie Curie Cancer Care.”

Swimathon is just one of the many exciting and challenging events that supporters can take on this year in order to Conquer their own Everest for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes is currently climbing Everest in a bid to raise £3 million for the charity – anyone wishing to follow in his footsteps and conquer their own personal Everest this year should click here to find out more.
