Finding your way around

Site navigation, breadcrumbs, search and sitemap all explained here.

Finding your way around the website

A Marie Curie Nurse gets out of her car to start a shift caring for a patient in their own homeTo go to any of the main sections of the website, for example, What we do, About us etc, click on the buttons in the top navigation bar. This top navigation bar appears on every page of the site.

Within each main section of the website you will see a left navigation panel to help you find your way around that section.

Blue coloured body text shows links that you can click on to go to another page in the website, or to another website in a new window. To click on a link, move your mouse over the text, and when the cursor looks like a hand rather than an arrow, you can click to activate that link to move to another page or visit a page in another website.

Most links also have "tool tips" or title information which pops up when you hover over them. This describes the link in greater detail, and will also tell you if the link will open in a new browser window (such as a link to another website).

Find your place - breadcrumbs explained

On every page except the main homepage and the Events homepage you will see a breadcrumb trail under the top navigation bar that looks like this:

About us > Help and information > Using our website > Finding your way around

This tells you where you are within the site, for example, the breadcrumb shown above for this page shows you that this page is in the Using our website part of the Help and information sub-section of the About us main website section. You can click on Help and information, About us or Using our website within the breadcrumb text to return to those pages.

If you find you have moved to a page you don't want to be on, you can use the back button (at the top of your browser tool bar), or these breadcrumb links to go back to the page where you were before, and you can do this as many times as you like.

Search and sitemap

If you really get lost or can't find what you are looking for, click on the Site map link in the footer of every page (the site map gives a summary of all of the main pages/sections within the site), or use the Search facility below the top navigation bar and above the left navigation panel that also appears on every page.
