Website accessibility

This page explains how to change the way you view a website and how to navigate without a mouse.

Increasing the text size

If you find the text on the site appears too small for you to read, you can customise your browser to make the text larger. Choose View, then Text Size and select Medium, Larger or Largest (in Internet Explorer), or in Firefox or Netscape choose View, Text Size, then Increase or Decrease.

Change the viewing options - text only, high contrast versions

To change the viewing options on this website, click on the link Change viewing options at the bottom of the search box above the left navigation panel. There are five set ways you can view our website, the normal, full colour view you see of this website, plus four text high contrast versions to aid accessibility:

  • Accessible Version: Black on White
  • Accessible Version: Black on White, no images

Navigating without a mouse

If you find using a mouse difficult, you may find the following helpful:

  • Try using the arrow keys on your keyboard, the up and down arrow keys can help with scrolling.
  • The page up and page down keys can also help to move up and down a page.
  • The tab key allows you to move through the hyperlinked elements of a page, from the logo in the top left (which takes you back to the home page), through the main and sub-navigation elements, across and down through all of the links within the body text (and any hyperlinked images/buttons) of a page, and finally to the footer links at the base of a page. Once you see a dotted line around the link you have tabbed to, press enter to activate the link.
