Each year we rely on the support of thousands of volunteers who donate their time, skills and experience to help us provide more free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses.
Whether it's lending a hand in hospices, on the till in charity shops or behind the scenes in fundraising offices, our Annual Volunteer Awards recognise and celebrate the extraordinary contribution of those people who give their time and themselves to help us continue our vital work.
On December 2, 2012 Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Chairman, John Varley and the charity’s directors presented 20 awards to a group of exceptional volunteers at the charity’s Volunteer Achievement Awards. The winners are listed in the table below.

Alex, a young man of 16, is dedicated to the charity. He has been volunteering with Marie Curie for about two years.
He operates the tills, prepares clothes for the shop floor and vacuums the shop. Not only does he work every Saturday but also during school holidays and any spare time he has. He became involved after attending the fete at the Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth.
Catrin has been volunteering with Marie Curie Cancer Care since January 2011. She assisted the fundraising team in coordinating the Great Daffodil Appeal.
Her tasks included confirming last minute collection sites, calling supporters, booking them into collections, ensuring their times didn’t clash and dealing with any challenging situations as they arose.
Catrin also booked entertainment for many of the collections, helping to maximize the amount raised. She also hosted collections and collected herself.
Danielle, 21, has become a very important member of the South Yorkshire Community Fundraising Team since she joined on a 48 week student placement in August 2010.
Over the last 11 months she has worked on the Great Daffodil Appeal, The Sheffield Big Zip 2010, Blooming Great Tea Parties and the Christmas Collection Appeal in 2010 and 2011. She has also provided a huge amount of support with the day-to-day running of the office.
Danielle is an inspiration to others because of how much she has learnt and how much she has developed personally and professionally. She’s given it her all and made the most of every opportunity.
