Marie Curie Cancer Care employs both Registered Nurses and Senior Healthcare Assistants to provide care at home. Marie Curie Cancer Care uses the job title Marie Curie Nurse for Registered Nurses and Marie Curie Senior Healthcare Assistants (SHCAs) for Senior Healthcare Assistants.
The District Nurse will assess whether a Marie Curie Nurse or Marie Curie SHCA is appropriate, depending on your nursing needs, the timing and length of visit you will need, the availability of other services and the needs of the person looking after you.
All Marie Curie Nurses and Marie Curie SHCAs provide a high standard of nursing care for people who are being cared for at home. However, there are differences in their qualifications and in the work they are permitted to do.
Marie Curie Registered Nurses can give any medication prescribed and perform technical nursing procedures including the management of syringe drivers.
Marie Curie Senior Healthcare Assistants provide direct patient care to support physical and social needs. They can assist patients to take their medications or give people prescribed medication if they have had the relevant training.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is recognized for delivering a quality service. We score 94 per cent 'excellent' with patients for quality of care and our patient helpline; and District Nurses rate our service at 90 per cent.
