"I can honestly say it has been a positive experience all round."
Eric Miller
Staff at the Marie Curie Hospice Edinburgh explain why they enjoy their jobs as well as revealing their hobbies and favourite songs.
I was looking for a job in the charity sector as I felt that my sales and marketing background would be well suited to fundraising.
During one of the first fundraising events I was involved in - our Ladies Driving Challenge at Ingliston - my boss ran over my foot - accidentally! Spending the day driving a combine harvester, arctic lorry and tank was the best experience. My VW polo didn’t feel the same after.
I love camping and fishing in the hill lochs in Scotland’s beautiful countryside. Anything outdoors really. I’m a mad tennis fan, too.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is very close to my own heart – my mum died in the hospice in 1987 aged 39.
I have helped out at various fundraising events from cheering on marathon runners, serving tea and coffee, cheque presentations, and street collecting: the list is endless.
I enjoy catching up with friends and gardening. I have just moved into a house and appear to be getting green fingers!
Hearing patients say we have made a difference to how they feel and seeing them smile.
Wandering in the Scottish hills, playing my flute with a local music group and making attempts to grow vegetables.
Dusty Springfield: I Just Don’t Know What to do With Myself and Son of a Preacher Man'.
I like it when we build up a good relationship with the families. Often they have a lot of questions and are very anxious so I try and focus on them as much as the patient and provide them with good support.
Dancing (salsa & ballroom), reading and swimming.
