"They took care of us all. We had weekly meetings with the staff there and nothing was too much trouble."
Jean Owen
Staff at the Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool explain why they enjoy their jobs as well as revealing their hobbies and favourite songs.
The variety. One minute I can be dealing with a clinical issue, the next with something to do with the building, or fundraising – and all of it benefits patients.
I love inviting people round for a three course meal and cooking everything from scratch.
Lots of things. Seal, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits and Capercaillie are all on my iPod at the moment.
I love working closely with the therapy team and the wider hospice team to enable patients to go home or have the best possible quality of life.
I’ve just had a little girl, so she takes up most of my time.
Take That.
Talking to people.
Walking.
Frank Sinatra, My Way.
Trying to give the best possible service we can. I don’t cut corners and it shows.
Most popular dishes are soft meals such as homemade quiche, corned beef hash, braised steak and fish.
Travelling.
Puccini’s operas, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple.
I have worked for Marie Curie for 16 years and love my role at the Liverpool Hospice.
I am surrounded by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers and we all work towards supporting our patients and their loved ones at a very difficult time in their lives.
Being invited to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace as a representative of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Amateur dramatics, dancing, and walking. I love spending time with my family, particularly my new granddaughter in the United States. I enjoy life to the full with my good friends.
