Different programmes run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am – 2.30pm (includes lunch). Fridays is for carers and families.
We developed our well-being programme to help local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses remain independent with the best possible quality of life.
A different programme takes place each day to suit the person’s needs at a particular stage of their illness.
Our well-being programme is open to people in the Vale of Glamorgan and the south east of Cardiff (Riverside, Grangetown, Butetown, Splott, Rumney, Llanrumney, Trowbridge and St Mellons).
This course is available on Tuesdays, from 10am – 2.30pm.
This six-week course will help you to cope with symptoms such as tiredness, anxiety and breathlessness. You will:
We will also cover other symptoms such as insomnia, loss of appetite, loss of strength, weight changes, constipation, nausea and vomiting and diarrhoea.
We will meet you to review your progress and look at how you can continue to have the support you need.
This course is available on Wednesdays, from 10am – 2.30pm (includes lunch).
This six-week course gives you the opportunity to join a group where you share experiences, ideas and get mutual support from others in a similar situation to yourself.
Some people attend this group after completing Tuesday’s Fatigue, Anxiety and Breathlessness group.
Led by social workers and therapists, you and your fellow group members decide what you want to talk about each week. This may include living or coping with your illness, body image, relationships or emotional wellbeing.
The day finishes with a gentle, relaxing yoga session suitable for people of all ages and abilities. You can even do it sitting in a chair.
This course is held on Thursday, from 10am – 2.30pm (includes lunch).
This group is for people who would like to keep on top of their symptoms through gentle exercise and activities and with support from our hospice team.
Our specialist nurse can advise you and tailor care according to your individual needs. Other members of our team may also be able to help.
These sessions are held on Friday, from 10am – 2.30pm (we provide tea and coffee).
Families and carers can have the time and space to talk about their feelings, fears and expectations.
The number of sessions you or your family attend depends on individual needs.
Our social workers can also give one-to-one support for patients and their families including children.
Following the session you and your family can sample complementary therapies such as reflexology or Indian head massage.
Clinics are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
In addition to the Well-being programme you can see a nurse in one of our clinics for a one-to-one consultation.
Sessions available by appointment.
Our wide range of safe and natural complementary therapies do not replace traditional care, but patients often comment on their relaxing qualities and overall benefits.
Therapies include: aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, reflexology, reiki and relaxation.
Complementary therapy sessions are open to carers too.
This service is available by appointment.
If you normally receive bisphosphonate infusions or blood transfusions in hospital you can have them here at the hospice instead.
During your visit you can also take advantage of our facilities and services including our complementary therapies.
Ask your GP, nurse or hospital consultant if they think you could benefit from Marie Curie Hospice day services and whether they will refer you.
