Get the right advice

  • If you're close to someone who thinks they might have cancer or another serious illness urge them to talk to their GP about how they think their health has changed. There is a guide on how to prepare for an appointment, available to download at the bottom of this page.
  • If the person you are caring for has been diagnosed with cancer or another life limiting illness and wants further information or doesn’t understand their diagnosis urge them to speak to their doctor and ask them to explain again. Other organisations that can offer information or support include Macmillan Cancer Support or NHS choices.

Preparing for an appointment

Talking to a GP can be very daunting for a patient, especially if they are concerned about their health. The checklist in this guide may help them prepare.
