Day 1 – Glasgow to Keflavik
- We will be transferred from our local Marie Curie Hospice to Glasgow airport where we will catch an afternoon flight from Glasgow to Keflavík.
- Upon arrival we will be met by our guides and transfer from Reykjavík to the Borgarfjörður region.
- This area is a haven for hiking, and with the light summer nights we will be able to witness the beauty of the landscape from the moment we arrive.
- Overnight camp.
Day 2 – Beginning our Icelandic challenge
Highest point 539m and six hour walk
- After an early breakfast we begin our Icelandic challenge.
- From camp, we take a short visit to the craters of Grábrókargígar and then start our trek at the breathtaking Hreðavatn Lake, which is formed partly from lava from the craters.
- We cross some small mountain passes over to the Vikravatn lake and then to Langavatn lake where we camp for the first night.
Day 3 – Langavatn to Hítarvatn Lake
Highest point 850m and eight hour walk
- A long day's walking over some incredible mountain scenery.
- From our Langavatn camp, we continue over to the Hítarvatn Lake and set up camp.
Day 4 – Return to Reykjavík
Highest point 500m and five hour walk
- The last day of our weekend challenge.
- Today’s trek through the mountains takes us to Lake Hlíðarvatn.
- Transport back to Reykjavík, where we will spend the night in a local guest house and enjoy a traditional Icelandic farewell and celebratory dinner.
Day 5 – Reykjavík
Free morning in Reykjavík , before we transfer to the airport for our flight back to Glasgow and finally on to our local Marie Curie Hospice.
