Name: Tracey Carnan

Age: 41

Which challenge?

Inca Trail Trek, 2005

Best memory from the trip?

Trekking through the Cloud Forest and meeting a group of wonderful people

Are you planning to meet up with fellow trekkers?

Definitely

Any lows?

When I had help on the last hour of the hardest to carry my bag. I had broken my leg six weeks previous to the trip and was finding it difficult with the weight of my bag and the height of some of the climb on my bad leg. A wonderful porter called Wilfredo helped carry my bag, I didn't want help being stubborn but was very grateful at the end of the day

Would you do it again?

Definitely

Advice/Comments for other trekkers:

Train before you go, start out doing a couple of hours at weekends then build up to 8 hour walks. Nothing will prepare you for the altitude or difficulties of some of the climb but you will be so grateful for the training you have done before hand. Try and keep your back pack items to a minimum (everything & the kitchen sink in my bag certainly didn't help). Do not feel that you need to keep up with the people in front. It is YOUR trek and YOUR experience. Take your time to enjoy the beauty around you...
