Why has Marie Curie Cancer Care asked for my telephone number?
We would like to be able to contact you and one of the quickest ways is by calling you. We promise that we won’t be bombarding you with calls, nor will we pass this information on to anyone outside Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Why has Marie Curie Cancer Care asked for its email address to be added into my contact address box?
We’d like to be able to keep in touch with you in one of the most cost effective ways – and by putting our address in your contact address box, we can ensure you receive the email and it doesn’t go into a ‘spam’ box.
We will email you updates about the run, including information about our celebrities and hospitality marquee. Again we promise not to bombard you with emails, nor will we pass this information on to anyone outside Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Do I need to book accommodation and want advice on travel arrangements?
Please check out the information on the Great Runs website for your particular run – where all the necessary information will be given out by NOVA International.
My friends and family want to come and support me – where do I find information to help them get the most out of the day?
Information regarding where spectators can get the best from the day is on the Great Runs website.
Cheerleaders
Marie Curie Cancer Care has cheerleader points along all of the BUPA Great Runs – please ask your friends, family and colleagues to contact us if they want to join us at one of our stations. Contact us via email at daffodil.runs@mariecurie.org.uk and we will send them all the information for your particular run.
What happens at the end of a run?
At each run Marie Curie Cancer Care will have a hospitality marquee serving refreshments, and offering massages to all our runners. Details of the hospitality marquee will be sent to you approx. four weeks before your run.
It’s a great place to meet your friends and family after the run and to catch up with fellow runners – just look out for our blue and yellow banners and balloons at the charity village.
What if I want to cancel my place?
Own place
If you have an Own Place (you obtained this directly from NOVA International) you need to let them know immediately. Please also let us know if you are unable to run so we can make sure we make a note of this.
Charity guaranteed place
Marie Curie Cancer Care buys a number of guaranteed places and it is our responsibility to let NOVA International know if you are unable to run. Please let us know as quickly as possible as we may be able to let another runner take your place dependent upon how near to the run date you let us know.
I cannot run – can I ‘give’ my place to someone?
Please note that under no circumstances can Marie Curie Cancer Care condone the swapping of places – NOVA International apply very strict and stringent rules to ensure that they know who is running under which number.
Swapping numbers is prohibited and can result in the runner being barred from other NOVA events, and the charity being censured.
What happens if I don’t complete the registration forms fully?
NOVA International require you to complete all their forms – if you don’t fully complete them this will delay your application and could mean you lose the chance for a place in your chosen run.
How do I get another vest size?
Please contact us via email at daffodil.runs@mariecurie.org.uk or 08700 340 040 and let us know which size you would prefer.
Why haven’t I got a water bottle this year?
Water bottles were only issued in 2006. For 2008 Marie Curie Cancer Care is providing rain ponchos to keep all runners warm and dry. You will receive these in your Welcome pack.
Does my registration fee go to Marie Curie Cancer Care?
No, your run registration fee is paid to and used by NOVA International. Marie Curie Cancer Care benefits only from sponsorship raised by runners in the BUPA Great Run series.

In your welcome pack we supply you with pre-printed bank paying in slips so that you can bank your sponsor money regularly. You can bank it at any of your local banks – simply ensure that you forward the stamped counterfoil to us so we can look out for your payments and log this against your total sponsorship money raised.
Alternatively, a quicker and easier way of raising sponsorship money is online, click on to Shake, Rattle and Roll for more information on how to do this.
Is there a deadline for paying in sponsorship monies that I’ve raised?
Yes, we usually encourage all sponsorship money to be passed to us within two months of the race taking place.
How does the money I raise help?
Every £20 you raise will help provide one hour of nursing care either from a Marie Curie Hospice or our Marie Curie Nurses.
At Marie Curie Cancer Care we believe that everybody deserves the best quality of life and that they should be able to decide where they spend the last few weeks of their lives.
Marie Curie Nurses make it possible for people to be cared for in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home.
Some people may prefer to be cared for elsewhere, and the 10 Marie Curie Hospices across the UK are dedicated to providing the best possible quality of life for people with cancer and supporting their families completely free of charge.
This year, Marie Curie Cancer Care will care for around 25,000 terminally ill patients and their families. By taking part in one of the BUPA Great Runs you can help ensure that the charity’s care and expertise reaches everyone who needs it.
What happens if I don’t raise enough money?
We ask all runners to commit to raise an amount of money – this goes to support the services provided by Marie Curie Cancer Care.
If you find you are experiencing difficulties in reaching the required target please contact us via email at daffodil.runs@mariecurie.org.uk and we will endeavour to offer you practical help.
Please also visit our fundraising pages for hints and tips.
Or if you have other questions you can contact us via email at daffodil.runs@mariecurie.org.uk or call 08700 340 040.
How much money is spent on administration of my runner pack?
Each event is set up with a target amount of net income to raise. In order to put on the event, and attract people to take part, we need to spend some money.
Our involvement in the BUPA Great Run series is a very cost effective way of raising funds. For every £1 we spend, we receive £8, which is wonderful.
It costs £20 to cover one hour of Marie Curie Nursing, so this money is vital to keep the service going. Last year we raised an amazing £932,127 from the runs which were put on at a cost of £84,938 (figures as at December 2007).
We are proud of this ratio. Our events are just one of many ways for people to support us financially – supporters can also:
We recognise that individuals have different preferences as to how they support us.
Incentives – what is Marie Curie Cancer Care offering to runners?
Last year courtesy of many suppliers and sponsors we had a vast array of incentives for runners, but feedback from our runners told us that they didn’t want these and that they wanted us to concentrate all our time and efforts in other ways.
Consequently for 2008 we have a small number of incentives – these are being confirmed now - watch this space!
I have a query not answered by any of the above - who do I ask?
If your query is directly related to your Great Run – please contact NOVA International on 0845 389 2200.
If you’re unsure where your query lies – or if it’s related to anything to do with Marie Curie Cancer Care – please contact us via email at daffodil.runs@mariecurie.org.uk
Thank you so much for taking part in the BUPA Great Run series in 2007 and for making your every step count.
We wish you every success and look forward to welcoming you back at the end of your BUPA Great Run.
