Its main research themes include:
- evaluation of interventions and effectiveness in palliative care
- assessment of psychological need
- end of life care planning
- sexuality
- spirituality
- systematic reviews
- child bereavement
- evaluation of communication skills training for health professionals
- complementary therapies
- palliative care in advanced non-cancer conditions.
The Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute brings together the work of the city's Marie Curie Hospice, the University of Liverpool and the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
The Institute's main aims are to: - undertake research projects aimed at finding out how best to care for dying patients (palliative care research); and
- promote best practice in care for the dying with education programmes and projects to encourage collaborations between charities, the NHS and private institutions.
