Making Music, The National Federation of Music Societies

New Charity Partnership of the Year - Making Music Care is the Charity of the Year partnership between Making Music and Marie Curie Cancer Care. Making Music, The National Federation of Music Societies, supports and champions voluntary music.

This new partnership will raise valuable funds for people terminally ill with cancer, as well as for Making Music, since a proportion of the funds raised will go directly to Making Music's membership.

The funds will be divided as follows:

  • 80% to Marie Curie Cancer Care
  • 10% to Making Music
  • up to 10% to the Making Music member society.

Musical performances countrywide

This partnership will take the form of musical performances at events up and down the country.

Upcoming Making Music Care events

The massed choirs of Making Music West Midlands and the Chandos Symphony Orchestra will be perforing Verdi Requiem, conducted by Michael Lloyd. The concert is taking place at Symphony Hall, Birmingham on June 8.

  • Raising money for both musicians and the charity

    Making Music is the UK's leading advocate for voluntary musical organisations and amateur musicians. With 2,400 societies - comprising individual choirs, amateur orchestras, bands and musical clubs specialising in both classical and modern music.

    Making Music has a total membership of 175,000 individual members, spread across some 2,400 music societies, putting on 10,000 concerts a year.

    Making Music Champions

    • To enjoy a truly successful partnership, we plan to provide each of Making Music's 12 Regional Committees with a ‘Making Music Champion' - a volunteer who will act as main liaison point between Making Music and Marie Curie Cancer Care
    • These people will sit on the Making Music Regional Committees

    Our Making Music Champions will

    • Be the local representative for the partnership in their area
    • Visit and liaise with local music societies and the Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser
    • Help with the organisation of special Making Music society events with musical performance, ie: balls, concerts, fetes and fairs
    • Organise musical performance at the Marie Curie Cancer Care street collections taking place across the country in March 2008
