The Daffodil Society

New charity of the year partnership: following a successful meeting with the new Chair of The Daffodil Society, Jackie Petherbridge, The Daffodil Society's Executive has agreed our partnership. We officially launched in 2006, with the main activity commencing around the Great Daffodil Appeal.

Visit the The Daffodil Society website (new window)The Daffodil Society is made up of 670 keen, individual daffodil enthusiasts and 220 or so affiliated organisations and societies.

The membership was encouraged to raise funds and take part in the Great Daffodil Appeal's 20th birthday, to help Marie Curie Cancer Care commemorate this special year for the daffodil.

We're interested in a long-term partnership, at least until 2008, Marie Curie Cancer Care's 60th anniversary year.

Lots of special things are already in the pipeline, including the possible selection and naming of a special 60th birthday 'Diamond Marie Curie' daffodil.

We're in discussions with Cornish Daffodil Breeder, Ron Scamp, who bred our daffodil, ‘Madam Speaker' to commemorate our 50th birthday. More on this soon, but there are clearly lots of exciting opportunities.

Partnership ideas include:

  • rallying the support of the membership during the Great Daffodil Appeal
  • participation in street collections
  • making Marie Curie Cancer Care the beneficiary of any draws held by membership in March
  • Marie Curie Cancer Care's attendance at all their national shows throughout March and April
  • planting new Fields of Hope - help us to plant our 1,000th field.
