Pancakes raise thousands in Truro

The Great Truro Pancake Race raises thousands for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Truro Rotary Club nominated Marie Curie Cancer Care as beneficiary of their annual Pancake Race on Shrove Tuesday, for the third year running.

"Our Rotary Club revived the Great Truro Pancake Race in 2003 after a period of 17 years to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"As a club we are delighted to support such a worth while cause and very much appreciate the help that Lynda Thomas, Marie Curie Fundraising Manager and her Co-ordinator gave on the day.

"We look forward to continuing to support the charity in the future".

The event was attended by local businesses, all of which paid an entry fee with individual team members getting sponsored.

Over £3,000 was raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care and another locally based charity. The winning team received the annual trophy of an engraved frying pan which is returned and passed on each year. They also got a small trophy and fun prizes to keep – all the prizes are sourced locally - this year it was pancake mix and lemons.

This wonderful partnership came about thanks to local Marie Curie Cancer Care Support Group member, Jennie Reed, who herself is a Rotarian and nominates Marie Curie Cancer Care each year.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is delighted to announce that, thanks to the continued support of Jennie Reed and the Truro Rotary Club, plans are soon to be underway for their fourth Pancake Race and Marie Curie Cancer Care are benefiting again!
