Daffodil Schools Challenge is an active Citizenship and fundraising project in which secondary school students are given the opportunity to create a unique display based on the charity’s daffodil emblem either in their school grounds or local community.
Student teams must decide on the type of display which can range from traditional flowerbeds to more artistic interpretations such as sculptures and mosaics . The teams will be responsible for all aspects of their project, from planning, creating, fundraising and PR through to evaluation as well as raising awareness for their local Marie Curie Nursing Service. The money raised through the challenge will help the charity continue to provide care and support to people with cancer and other terminal illnesses, and their families, free of charge in their own homes.
Teaching support is offered through a free, comprehensive teaching resource produced by Marie Curie Cancer Care in conjunction with teachers. Lesson plans link the challenge with Key Stage 3 & 4 in key subjects such as Citizenship, PHSE, Business Studies and English. Pupils receive lesson plans and activity sheets which will help them work through the project tasks including guidance on raising awareness of the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This simple fundraising idea gives the pupils the power to decide who they would most like to see falling from a plane by paying one pound to vote “a pound a push”.
