Websites that children and young people may find helpful:

Child Bereavement Charity provides resources and information for bereaved children and families (and for healthcare professionals), including understanding feelings, funerals, loss and adjusting to loss, and returning to school. Childhood Bereavement Network is an online directory giving information about access to children and young people's bereavement services in the UK. It also produces videos – for more information and a downloadable order form please go to the Childhood Bereavement Network's publications page.

Childline is a national helpline for children and young people.

Cruse Bereavement (RD4U) is a website designed for young people by young people, and aims to support people after the death of someone close. RD4U means the 'road for you' - the main aim of the site is to let young people find their own 'road' to dealing with their loss.

Riprap is an interactive site for 12 to 16 year olds who have a parent with cancer, but it also includes information for young people who are bereaved.

Winston's Wish is an interactive website for bereaved children and families, offering practical support and guidance to families, to professionals and to anyone concerned about a grieving child.

Websites that everyone may find helpful:

Bereavement Advice Centre offers advice on all aspects of bereavement, from registering the death and finding a funeral director through to probate, tax and benefit queries. You can also call the helpline 0800 634 9494 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, answer machine at all other times).

The Compassionate Friends is an international organisation of bereaved parents offering friendship, support and understanding to other bereaved parents. Includes parents of adult children who have died.

Facing Bereavement provides onilne information on a range of subjects, inlcuding arranging a funeral, memorials, emotional issues and financial matters, and can send a monthly newsletter by email.

Family Bereavement provides online information on a range of subjects, including arranging a funeral, memorials, emotional issues and financial matters, and can send a monthly newsletter by email.

If I Should Die includes information on bereavement issues ranging from planning a funeral and bereavement benefits to supporting someone who is bereaved and writing a letter of condolence. It also has a section about terminal illness.

Parentlineplus has a page with links to sites about dealing with bereavement, supporting children through bereavement, and coping with the loss of a child.

Cruse Bereavement Care aims to enable anyone bereaved to understand their grief and cope with their loss. The organisation provides counselling and support, and offers information, advice, education and training services. You can contact Cruse if you want to talk about your own loss or someone you know who has been affected by a death.

Directgov is a government website with pages which provide information about practical and emotional aspects of death and bereavement.

Homes with heart organises weeks in private holiday homes to young families (adults under 50) who need a break because either a child or parent is terminally ill or has a life-limiting disease, or the family is recently bereaved. There is no charge to the family and this scheme is not limited to low-income families. The application form must be sent with a supporting letter from a healthcare professional. Most properties are currently in the south of England though the charity hopes to offer properties nationwide in due course.

SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death) provides information for people who have experienced a stillbirth or neonatal death, including advice on how to talk to young children about your loss. It has a telephone helpline, and a private forum where parents can talk to other parents online.

Poetic expressions offers a selection of readings and poems on a number of subjects, including grief.
