Support for children and young people

Marie Curie Cancer Care offers information and support to families experiencing illness or loss.

Smiling young mother with baby sitting on her lapChild Bereavement Care is provided through our ten hospices across the UK, where we have dedicated Children and Young People's Counsellors to work with families who have children.

Serious illness in the family is hard to cope with. For children and young people this can be a time of extreme anxiety and confusion. When someone close has died there is a feeling of great loss, sadness and stress for the family.

Children and young people need information, support and opportunities to express their feelings and to share their memories. As they mature and develop they need opportunities to return to their grief and understand the implications of their loss.

Parents who are also experiencing loss and sadness may find it difficult to know the best way to support their children and how to find the right words.
