Cancer – general
Cancerbackup provides information about cancer in general and individual cancers, as well as emotional support and practical advice by telephone, letter or email. The charity also provides publications and information about local services.
Cancer Research UK provides information about different types of cancer as well as a phone line and an email form for specific enquiries.
Macmillan Cancer Support provides a range of cancer information via the Macmillan CancerLine and its information and support centres and mobile centres.
The American Cancer Society has information on different types of cancer (click on the ‘Learn about cancer’ box on the home page), as well as treatment decision tools.
Tenovus provides various information services, including a freephone cancer helpline, an ‘ask the nurse’ email enquiry form and specialist oncology nurses.

After-cancer.com was launched by a patient to provide information for fellow cancer patients about handling the side effects from hormonal drugs.
DIPEx covers many different illnesses and includes clinical information, interviews with people who have experience of a specific illness and discussion forums.
Expert Patients Programme runs courses to help people living with a long-term health condition maintain their health and improve their quality of life, and also Looking after me courses for carers.
Doctor Babel is recommended on the MND Association website. You can create a medical record online that can be translated into a number of languages and printed off. Details of a wide range of conditions, surgical procedures and UK medications can be translated. There is a fee for this service.
