Become one of Marie Curie’s online campaigners
This week, we are asking Marie Curie supporters to do something new for the charity – to help us campaign online.
You may remember that back in April, we asked you to sign up and help us campaign. Well, this week, Marie Curie has released our report, Triggers for Palliative Care, and we want politicians to take note of it and work to improve access to care and support for people with a terminal illness.
What are we asking you to do?
We would like you to email your local politician, asking them to support the report. But, to make things easy, we have set up online campaigning so all you have to do is visit our sign up page and then fill in your name and contact details.
An email will be automatically generated to your local politician, which you will have the opportunity to read through. All you have to do is click submit and the email is sent. You will receive a copy of the email for your own personal records.
Why are we asking you to do this?
We know that politicians are more likely to take action about something if they hear about it from the people in their constituency. Although it will take just two minutes of your time, we know it will make a difference.
As well as helping them realise that their constituents are concerned about the issue, the email gives them practical steps they can take as politicians to promote the issues raised in the report.
Although Marie Curie will be contacting politicians about this report and asking for their support, we know it will be even more effective if they’ve already heard about it from you. This will help us work more closely with politicians to campaign for improvements for care and support for people living with a terminal illness.
What will happen next?
We hope that as many politicians as possible across the UK will receive emails from you all about this report. The email asks the politicians to write back to you and we hope that you will receive a response, as politicians should reply to their constituents.
We will be looking to expand our online campaigning over the next few months, mainly by asking you to email key decision makers, or potentially by signing an online petition. We plan to keep our online campaigners updated with a newsletter every few months, telling you how we’re getting on and how you can help us.
If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and someone will get back to you with an answer. Good luck and thanks again for your support.
