Jane Horrocks asks public to ignore a chore in new Marie Curie TV ad
Actress Jane Horrocks, famous for playing Bubble in Absolutely Fabulous, is the distinctive voice of our new Great Daffodil Appeal TV and radio adverts.
Our ad campaign, which launches on 19 January, asks people to sign up to collectfor Marie Curie during the Great Daffodil Appeal in March. In the ad, Jane calls on people to ignore a chore – such as weeding or washing the car – and collect for the appeal instead.
Speaking after recording her voiceover, Jane said: “Volunteer some time and spend just a couple of hours collecting donations for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal. All you need is a smile on your face and Marie Curie will provide everything else.”
The TV ad follows a volunteer who leaves her household chores undone to go and collect for the Great Daffodil Appeal. She meets up with a team of enthusiastic volunteers for a fun morning of raising money and chatting with members of the public.
The ad features both actors and Marie Curie volunteers, among them Kenny Brown, from Clapham, south London, who has collected for the Great Daffodil Appeal for the last three years.
“What I enjoy most of all is feeling part of the community,” said Kenny. “When I am out collecting, the generosity of the people of Clapham is phenomenal. I also really like it when people come up to you and talk about their own personal stories.
“Hopefully the ad will help us recruit as many collectors as we possibly can by showing what a great experience it is. So please sign up to collect today!”
Look out for the ad from 19 January and watch this video for a behind-the-scenes look at how we made it. And be sure to sign up to be a collector if you haven't already!
