The money you raise will mean I can provide even more terminally ill people and their families with the free hands on care and emotional support that they need in their own homes.
There are many happy memories from working as a Marie Curie Nurse. One I remember very clearly is one Christmas Eve I was looking after an elderly gentleman who was upstairs in his bedroom. As I went up he was very fidgety and appeared to be uncomfortable. It was quite difficult to assess him as he wasn’t really able to communicate very well. But at the side of the bed he had a very old dog that kept trying to get up onto his bed. And in the end I felt that maybe this was exactly what he needs. So I gave the dog a little heave-ho onto the bed and the dog snuggled down next to his master. His master put his arm around the dog, and they both settled for the rest of the night.

• £435 pays for someone with a terminal illness to stay in a Marie Curie Hospice for 24 hours, so they can receive the hands-on care they need in their final days

You (or your fundraising team leader) will receive three paying in slips per participant. These are to be used for depositing cash raised for this event at your local bank (this does not need to be a Natwest bank.) This money will then be reconciled against you (or your fundraising team leader). There are two counterfoils on each paying in slip. One of these counterfoils is for your records, the other should be sent to the Treks & Cycles Team at the address above.
Once you have collected all the pledged income on your paper sponsorship forms, please return them to the address above so that we may claim Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows us to make your sponsorship and donations go further. For every pound that you raise, we can claim an extra 25p from HM Revenue and Customs, at no extra cost to you. In order for us to make a Gift Aid claim your sponsors must have paid income tax or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount of tax recoverable on any donation. However Gift Aid claims are regarded as an additional benefit to the charity and are not included in your sponsorship target.
