Pennies and the Bag Levy
Pennies gives your customers the option to donate a few pence to charity when paying for goods or services by card. You can also support us by donating the income from your sales of plastic carrier bags.
On this page:
The bag levy is a scheme introduced by the government to reduce the number of plastic bags in circulation in the UK and protect the environment by charging 5p per plastic bag. Already introduced in Wales in 2011 and Scotland in 2014, the charge will apply in England from October 2015.
Many retailers have already started donating the income from the levy in Scotland and Wales to charity, with the dual benefits of helping the environment and raising money for a good cause.
With the rollout of the levy to England, there will be even more opportunities to do something for charity – so why not donate the income raised from the levy to Marie Curie and help do something amazing for our work with people living with a terminal illness and their families.
