The Hutchinson family

The Hutchinson family will be supporting the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow on the 16 June 2016 in memory of their mother, Muriel.

"Our family has had a connection with Marie Curie since our dad died in 2003. He was cared for in the previous Marie Curie facility and, whilst only there for a short time, we recognise, even more so now, how fortunate we were to be in a place with such a caring ethos.

"Our mum spent her last 10 weeks in the Marie Curie hospice. Having had some brief respite prior to this, she knew this was where she wanted to be.

"Mum felt a sense of peace, due in the main to her strong faith, but also because she knew she was in the right place for her to be able to cope with her illness and have the right support. She knew her time was short and though this did not daunt her, the care and love she received truly blessed her and us as a family.

Place of safety

"As many other families will attest, to have the comfort of knowing our mum was in a place of safety at an ultimately difficult time was such a comfort.

"Mum was always Muriel to the nurses and doctors; never just a room number. Their care and professionalism was evident throughout, especially in their ability to explain sensitively the on-going decline in Mum's health, which was always clear and never confusing.

"Mum struggled with food over the last months of her life, but nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff and chefs. who had some glowing reports from mum when we visited of scrumptious dishes she'd managed to enjoy.

Debt of gratitude

"Our mum passed away on 8 November 2015. The 16 of June is what would have been her 75th birthday. She is truly at peace now, but in her last weeks, Marie Curie provided an environment that calmed, consoled and readied her for her final journey.

"Our family owe a debt of gratitude that even could we repay financially, would still fall short of the true value of our experience with Marie Curie in Bishopbriggs. To be able to pay for a day is a privilege and, be it by monthly donation, donation of time for fundraising or undertaking sponsored tasks, we will continue to support Marie curie as often as we are able."
