Support for families
Your family may need support and we can help them too. We can offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to the family members and close friends of patients being cared for at the hospice.
We have comfortable areas around the building where families can relax and vending area for refreshments.
We can accommodate your family if they would like to stay overnight.
Carers’ information session
One evening during the first week of the month, alternating between Tuesday and Thursday, 6pm - 8pm.
Carers can find out what support is available to help them care for someone with a long-term illness. They will also learn about the hospice’s services and how they might benefit them personally as well as the person they are caring for.
Each session includes a presentation on a topic such as nutrition or benefits. External speakers regularly come along to talk to carers about their services such as Age Concern, or Pets as Therapy - a scheme where volunteers bring dogs and cats to visit patients for companionship.
These sessions are held Monday to Friday, and arranged by appointment.
Our wide range of safe and natural complementary therapies do not replace traditional care, but people often comment on their relaxing qualities and overall benefits.
Therapies include aromatherapy, Indian head massage, reflexology and relaxation.
If for some reason you can’t get to the hospice we offer complementary therapies in the comfort of your own home or at Old Swan Health Centre.
Complementary therapy sessions are also open to carers.
Our social workers and young person’s counsellor are trained and experienced in helping people adjust to changes in circumstances. They will get to know your family including children or grandchildren and focus on how to best support them and help them manage emotional difficulties.
You can have one-to-one appointments for support at the hospice or in your home.
Bereavement support for families
We also provide bereavement support for families dealing with the loss of someone close.
