Marston Green Fundraising Group, September 2015
The Marston Fundraising Group is generously sponsoring our West Midlands hospice for the third time in two years on 15th September 2015.
Ian Fletcher, Chair of the Marston Green Marie Curie Fundraising Group, said "It is now three and a half years since the group was formed and almost a year since Marston Green Fundraising Group paid for their second day at the hospice. We raised over £21,000 last financial year and had another very successful Blooming Great Tea Party this July, raising over £3,000. We continue to receive tremendous support from the local community and businesses. We have recently formed a partnership with Virgin Rail at Birmingham International Station enabling us to collect when major events are on at the NEC.
"Pay for a Day enables us to show a tangible outcome for some of the money we have raised when encouraging people to support our group’s fundraising activities. We have chosen 15 September to pay for our third day at the hospice, this time for personal reasons. My wife, Pam, died eight years ago at the old hospice on this date and it was the care and support both she and the family received during the four days she was there that led me initially to support the work of Marie Curie and latterly to chair and develop our local fundraising group. Two years ago Pam’s mother, Nancy Whereat, also died on the same date having received support during her illness from Marie Curie Nurses, making the date doubly important to the family.
"We are only able to pay for a day thanks to the way the local community have embraced and supported our group. The success of the fundraising group is also due to its hardworking and committed members who should be proud of what they have achieved since the group formed under four years ago."
