Marston Green Fundraising Group, 29 September 2014
Marston Green Fundraising Group's previous "Pay for a Day" was on Mothering Sunday and we are delighted to be able to "Pay for a Day" for the second time this year.
Since April we have been successful in collecting over £10,000, again due to the tremendous support received from our local community and businesses. At Birmingham Airport our airside collection during the Easter holiday period raised £4,400 and our recent Blooming Great Tea Party a further £2,400. That, together with donations and other activities such as supermarket collections, means that we are able to fund the £7,321 needed to "Pay for a Day's" care at the hospice.
We have chosen this particular time in memory of one of our supporters and her family, who have been given care and support by Marie Curie. As a new group, formed in January 2013, we received help and encouragement from Bickenhill Parish Council and also individual Councillors, some of whom are members of the fundraising group. The Chairman of the Parish Council, Frank Bunce, has supported and encouraged us in many ways, getting involved in tin shaking and running the tombola at our recent successful Tea Party. His wife, Yvonne, who attended the Day Centre at the hospice also supported us through, amongst other things, publicising and praising our activities in the local press.
Without local community support Marston Green Fundraising Group would not be as successful as it is in raising funds to support the West Midlands Hospice in Solihull. We therefore, dedicate this Day in memory of Yvonne Bunce and to the local community, as a way of acknowledging their on-going support.
