Let’s talk about cancer lecture

On 24 June 2014, Andrew McDonald gave a lecture, ‘Let’s talk about cancer’, talking about his experience of living with prostate cancer.

Assisted by Martin Sixsmith and Chris Mohr, he argued that all too often medics had focused on his disease rather than him and his need. He explained why we communicate about cancer in this way and what we need to do about it.

We want to change the conversation so that professionals feel they can talk to the individuals they are supporting about how their diagnosis affects them and what they can do to treat them as an individual.

After the lecture, Marie Cure launched the ‘About me’ campaign in support of Andrew’s call. This has now become part of our work campaigning for better care and support for people living with a terminal illness.

You can view the full lecture, ‘Let’s talk about cancer’  , plus a questions and answers session  , below or on the Marie Curie YouTube channel  .
