End of life care and dementia

Commissioners in Haringey expressed a desire to work with Marie Curie in undertaking a baseline review of end of life care for people with dementia, leading to recommendations to improve access to palliative care services for this patient group.

This was the first project that Marie Curie has undertaken to examine the specific needs of people with advanced neurodegenerative disease.

Project objectives

Identify the major barriers for dementia patients and their carers in accessing good quality end of life careSuggest cost effective ways of enabling improvements based on review findings

Additional stakeholders for this project were:

NHS Haringey, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust, Adult, Culture and Community Services, Haringey Council and the National Council for Palliative Care and For Dementia.
