Two friends John 'Ol Chum Bucket' Baur and Mark 'Cap n Slappy' Summers invented the idea in 1995, for a good ole laugh. They announced that everyone should talk like a pirate on September 19th each year.
These poor buccaneer's rode the seas alone until a humour columnist, Dave Barry came across the event and liked it. Dave jumped onboard and promoted the event to shores near and far, now everyone should be celebrating International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th. Arrrrr!
The money raised will help Marie Curie Nurses care for more terminally ill cancer patients at home so get everyone talking, thinking and dressing like a pirate on September 19.
So slice up your mainbrace and sign up yer crew for a voyage of discovery and laughs, arrrhh.
