Your Marie Curie

Thank you so much for regularly supporting Marie Curie. Your Marie Curie is a celebration of you and your impact on people and their loved ones. The cover image, created by Kevin - who attends our Create & Chat group at Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale, represents all of the light and positivity you bring. Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy reading the moving stories you've made possible. Annette Weatherley Chief Nursing Officer

Thanks for bringing comfort and dignity to Gareth

Thanks to you, people like Gareth can die where they want, with the people they love. After ten weeks in hospital with complications from his Parkinson’s, Marie Curie helped him move back home, just as he wished. “It was such an excellent service from everyone once we got home,” say his daughters Eiry, Branwen and Elen. “For us to be able to be with Dad, in his own house, and to be all together – we feel privileged to have had that opportunity.” Your gifts helped Gareth, pictured here with his wife Gina, and his family receive vital overnight support from Marie Curie Nurses, so the family could rest knowing he was looked after. Right until his death, we were there – because you were there too.

Thanks for providing support to more people

Marla is part of our Support Line team, providing free support to anyone affected by a terminal illness. “There are so many different aspects to the Support Line: benefits advice, bereavement, companionship – it’s all at the end of the phone or computer, it’s accessible and it’s free,” says Marla. “I feel very proud and privileged that people who are at the most vulnerable time in their life share emotions and worries with me – it’s huge.” Your regular gift helps people like Wendy get support in the toughest times: “Without doubt, those phone calls were a lifeline to me. It gave me an opportunity to talk about what I was going through and how I was dealing with it.” Wendy, who accessed the Companion over the Phone service through our Support Line. Last year, our Support Line team answered the call for free practical and emotional support 21,655 times. It’s a vital service for people like Wendy – and it couldn’t run without your continued support.

Thanks for support that impacts generations

"When I wrote my Will, I decided to leave my money to Marie Curie. I just want every family that is going through that awful time to have the support we had, because it just makes such a difference." Lynn, whose dad received our care thanks to you More than a quarter of all people cared for by Marie Curie last year* received our care thanks to gifts in supporters' Wills. *Financial year ending March 2025

Thanks for being part of an amazing team

"The grace and dignity that all the Marie Curie nurses showed my dad will stay with me forever. By taking part in the London Marathon, I could both honour my dad and raise much needed funds for a charity that was there in my family's time of need." Donna, who ran the London Marathon to honour her dad

Thanks for helping our chefs brighten up summer

In our hospice kitchens, your continuous support helps chefs provide nutritious food and cook special meals that people can request. Head Chef Bryan from Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh wanted to share this Summer Fruit Pudding recipe with you.
