Spiritual care

Our Chaplain can offer support if you have concerns and thoughts about the bigger, deeper questions of life – but will equally respect your wishes should you prefer not to discuss such matters.

He will listen to your concerns and offer compassion, aiding in your search for inner peace and strength.

If you're staying at the hospice and would like support to meet your specific spiritual needs, our Chaplain can potentially contact religious leaders from many different faith communities. As such, if you wish to see a representative from your own faith, he can try his best to arrange this for you. Our Chaplain can also source sacred scriptures, artefacts and devotional literature from a range of beliefs.

If you're attending the hospice for the day, our Chaplain can spend time talking to you at the hospice or visit you in your home.

We have a quiet room at our hospice that you, and your family and friends, can use for reflection, meditation or prayer.

Patrick Ryan, Edinburgh hospice chaplainMeet our Chaplain, Patrick Ryan

"I have worked in the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh for more than four years.

"I love the fact that I get the opportunity to work with a great team of people, engage with patients, families and staff and offer a spiritual presence.

"I feel I make a difference to patients by entering into a relationship with them, through listening to their stories and telling some of my own."
