Crematorium donates £5000 to hospice from recycling scheme

A £5,000 donation has been presented to a Penarth hospice, thanks to a recycling scheme at a nearby crematorium memorial park.

Marie Curie community fundraisers, which provides care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families, were delighted to accept the donation from Cardiff & Glamorgan Memorial Park.

Michelle Jones, manager of the crematorium and assistant manager Claire Davies, visited the charity’s Cardiff and the Vale Hospice to present the donation to community fundraisers Hannah Leckie and Clare Wright.

The funds were raised as part of the team’s work with the ICCM (Institute for Cemetery and Crematorium Management) to raise funds through their Recycling of Metals Scheme.  The scheme has raised £3.3 million nationally since it was established.

Michelle said: “At Cardiff & Glamorgan Memorial Park we understand that living with a loved one who has a terminal illness can be a difficult and emotional time; therefore, we were absolutely delighted and honoured to be able to provide Marie Curie with the much-needed funds they require in order to continue to help families in need.”

Hannah Leckie, community fundraiser for the Cardiff and the Vale Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to Cardiff and Glamorgan Memorial Park and Crematorium for selecting Marie Curie as their chosen charity on this occasion.

“This will help us continue to provide expert, round-the-clock care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families.”
