Welsh Labour tabled a debate on Palliative and End of Life care in the Senedd, with the motion gaining broad support across the Chamber.
Marie Curie Cymru Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Dr Tomos Evans, said: “Marie Curie Cymru welcomes today’s debate on palliative and end of life care in the Senedd and the broad agreement on the challenges faced by the sector. This must now be matched by concrete action from the Welsh Government so that people at the end of life can receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
"Good palliative care can have a profound impact on those living with a terminal illness and those close to them. But almost 1 in 3 adults in Wales are left without the care and support they need at the end of life. Our palliative and end of life care system is under immense pressure, and with demand for care growing, action is urgently needed.
"This should include 24/7 access to advice and support from palliative care professionals via 111, the roll out of palliative care paramedics in all parts of Wales - and the placement of a palliative care nurse in every community. “These debates are a vital step in ensuring society as a whole has conversations around how we care for people at end of life. It’s a conversation that deserves continued attention this Senedd term.”
Dywed Dr Tomos Evans, Rheolwr Polisi a Materion Cyhoeddus Marie Curie Cymru: “Mae Marie Curie Cymru yn croesawu’r ddadl yn y Senedd heddiw ar ofal lliniarol a diwedd oes. Mae’r cytundeb eang ledled y Senedd ar yr heriau sydd yn wynebu’r sector yn bwysig, ond mae nawr rhaid iddo gael ei baru efo gweithred concrit gan Lywodraeth Cymru, fel bod pobl ar ddiwedd oes yn gallu derbyn y gofal iawn, yn y lle iawn, ar yr amser iawn.
“Mae gofal lliniarol dda yn cael effaith dwfn ar bobl sy’n byw efo salwch terfynol a’r bobl yn agos atynt. Ond mae bron 1 mewn 3 o oedolyn yng Nghymru ddim yn derbyn y gofal a chefnogaeth sydd angen arnynt ar ddiwedd oes. Mae’n system gofal lliniarol a diwedd oes o dan bwysau enfawr, ac efo galw am ofal yn tyfu, mae angen gweithred ar frys.
“Dyle’r gweithredai cynnwys mynediad 24/7 i gyngor a chefnogaeth oddi wrth weithwyr proffesiynol trwy 111, parafeddygon gofal lliniarol ym mhob rhan o Gymru – a’r lleoli o nyrsys gofal lliniarol ym mhob cymuned.
“Mae’r dadlau yma yn step hanfodol i sicrhau fod ein Cymdeithas yn cael sgyrsiau agored amdano sut rydym yn gofalu am bobl ar ddiwedd oes. Mae’n sgwrs sydd yn haeddu llawer mwy sylw'r term Senedd yma.
