We want all our fundraising volunteers to feel confident in their role. That’s why we have a variety of training opportunities for you.
If there are any other opportunities you’d find helpful for your role, do let your Community Fundraiser know.
Welcoming you to Marie Curie
As part of your onboarding here at Marie Curie, you’ll receive a welcome pack to support you at the start of your new role. This gives you an overview of the role, what to expect in the first few weeks, as well as some top tips to get you started.
Induction
As a new volunteer, your induction is your chance to learn more about Marie Curie, the services we provide, the teams that you'll meet, explore how the role will work in your area and ask any questions that you might have. We want all our volunteers to receive the best induction possible, so we have a range of resources available to help you get started.
Your induction will be delivered in two parts - one delivered by our Fundraising Volunteering Team, virtually, and the other by your Volunteer Manager where you'll learn how your role fits in your local community.
For any local information or support, please reach out to your Volunteer Manager.
Annual refresher and training renewal
To support you in your fundraising volunteering role, we will send an annual refresher pack to you, with key information on your role and any important updates. This is a key part of your training and ensures you understand the role, whilst also keeping you informed on any new developments.
As a volunteer, each year you’ll need to undertake our online mandatory training renewal in October. This is a quick but important process which involves reading our online training materials, which helps to ensure you are well informed for your role.
Your Volunteer Manager will be able to support you with this process but do keep a look out for these reminders to ensure you stay up to date.
Information about Marie Curie
Marie Curie volunteers play a vital role in spreading the word about the work of our charity in local communities across the UK.
Visit our About us pages to make sure you’re up to date with the latest on our work. This will help you build a picture in peoples' minds of how our charity improves lives: on a personal level, locally and nationally.
Speaker volunteer training
This training is for Marie Curie Speaker Volunteers or those looking to talk on behalf of the charity. This training will help you develop your knowledge of Marie Curie and give you the confidence to talk about our work and answer questions. All our Marie Curie Speaker Volunteers are required to complete this training.
Currently there are two parts to your training.
Telling the Marie Curie Story digital book
You need to complete our online training booklet and a short quiz. You don't need to do both at once and you can access this at any time whilst volunteering with us. This will be sent to you when you sign up to the training.
Online group training sessions
This online training is delivered on Microsoft Teams. You would attend a small group training session with group discussions and tasks. Together we walk you through all aspects of delivering a talk, creating your talk, and how to utilise stories.
The training is divided into two training sessions. Each session lasts for two and a half hours over two weeks. You will need to attend both sessions.
Whether you are new to public speaking or have experience with public speaking, there is something in here to support all abilities.
Your Community Fundraiser will be able to update you on the training dates and can arrange for your place to be booked.
Once you’ve completed your training, it’s key to keep practicing and keep an eye out for talk opportunities in your area. Your Community Fundraiser will be able to let you know of any scheduled talks in your area – not only is this a chance to practice your speaking skills, but this is also a great opportunity to meet other volunteers in your area.
Event planning training
We offer event planning training to any fundraising volunteers involved in event planning. These are online sessions designed to support you with the event planning process, going through the steps needed to ensure your events are well planned and safe to run. Your Community Fundraiser will share any training opportunities with you.
For each of your fundraising events, there are certain measures you need to consider to make it safe for all involved. We’ve got the key documents and guidance you need – so make sure you’ve read them before hosting your activity.
If you’d like to find out more, please reach out to your Community Fundraiser.
