Marie Curie to entertain the nation with a series of online celebrity hosted quizzes
Press release published
Celebrities including Chris Kamara, Paul Chuckle, Mel Giedroyc and Alison Steadman are set to host a series of online quizzes for end of life charity Marie Curie starting today (Thursday 30 April).
The quizzes are being held to raise essential funds to help Marie Curie provide care and support for dying patients across the country and kick off today (30th April, 7pm) when Chris Kamara is set to host a family-friendly general knowledge quiz.
Also lined up to provide the nation with some nostalgic entertainment is TV legend Paul Chuckle who is hosting a quiz about kids trivia and Claire Richards from Steps who is throwing it back to the good old days of ‘Tragedy’ and ‘5,6,7,8’ with her 90’s themed quiz.
Alison Steadman is also getting in on the action by hosting a Gavin and Stacey quiz, and Mel Giedroyc is proving the show must go on with her Eurovision themed quiz. TV presenter Anneka Rice is also planning to 'challenge' the nation’s knowledge with her back to the 80s quiz.
Marie Curie is caring for dying patients requiring end of life care, in order to relieve the unprecedented pressure on the NHS during the Coronavirus crisis, as well as caring for people with coronavirus in both its hospices and people’s own homes. The charity needs to raise £2.5million a week to continue to run its essential frontline services, at a time when its ability to generate this money has been decimated.
Chris Kamara said: “I’m so excited to be hosting the first Marie Curie celebrity Quiz this Thursday at 7pm. It’s a fun quiz for all the family, and it’s going to be UNBELIEVABLE. As we all know, so much has been put on hold because of Coronavirus and we wish we could put terminal illness on hold too, but we can’t. So please come along, donate what you can and enjoy the quiz.”
Marie Curie’s Chief Executive Matthew Reed said: “At this time of national emergency, Marie Curie Nurses and frontline staff are needed more than ever as the NHS is put under ever greater strain. We’re ready and geared up to help, with hospice beds and nurses on standby. But just as we want to help, our income has been decimated. We need donations urgently to keep our Nurses and Hospice staff on the frontline.
“We hope this series of quizzes will give the nation some light relief when they need it most and also a way to come together to support Marie Curie Nurses and the people and families they continue to support through this crisis.”
In an attempt to raise as much money possible after a devastating loss of funds, the charity has suggested a donation of £5 to take part in the quizzes. Head to Marie Curie's Facebook page or visit the Marie Curie website to see the full schedule of quizzes and make sure to keep checking back for exciting new announcements.
