Our strategy

We need to close the gap in end of life care and make sure everyone gets the care and support they need.

The problem

Almost 1 in 3 people don't receive the palliative care and support they need at the end of life, and that can mean a lack of support, financial stress, and loss of dignity. And this problem is growing fast. People in the UK are living longer, with multiple and more complex health challenges. By 2048, the need for end of life care will have increased by up to 25%. And the people who miss out most are those from disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

Our vision

Everyone will be affected by dying, death and bereavement. That can't be changed; but the end of life experience can. Everyone deserves the best possible care and support, reflecting what's most important to them. We want a better end of life for all.

Our mission

Between now and 2030, our mission is to continue closing this gap in end of life care by:
  • transforming and growing our direct care and support
  • delivering more practical information and support
  • leading in shaping the end of life care system across the UK.

Our plans for 2026/27 and beyond

Too many people are still missing out on the care they deserve, but we can and should play a significant role in changing that. With of our reach across the four nations, our expertise and the public’s confidence in us, it’s an exciting time to be part of Marie Curie.
We currently support around 44,000 people through our direct care services, and we aim to double this number of people we care for over the next five years.
We also support 2.7 million people through our Information and Support services. And we'll continue to invest in these so we can reach more people remotely, offering help wherever and whenever it's needed.
Our focus will be on delivering our growth plans – driving innovation in our services and increasing the impact of our research and policy work.
We will push for system change to improve end of life care and strengthen clinical practice through research, while continuing to develop and broaden our information and support offer.
To achieve this, we'll be transforming our ways of working and supporting our communications and income generation teams, helping us accelerate progress towards our strategic goals and long-term financial sustainability.
