Last Friday, I visited the Marie Curie Hospice, Hampstead to see first-hand how the money raised through the Feel Super campaign will help the charity care for more people living with a terminal illness.

It’s not the first time I’ve visited one of the Marie Curie Hospices. Along with the rest of the girls from The Saturdays, we helped officially open the new Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands with HRH Prince Charles in 2013, which was very exciting. We met a lot of supporters and families who were receiving nursing care from the charity and it was a very inspiring day.

A bittersweet experience

Visits like this are always bittersweet experiences. It’s obviously very sad to meet people who are really poorly and their families but they’re always so happy and positive. You never actually see any sadness when you’re visiting.

One of the most important things I learnt was that Marie Curie doesn’t just offer care for people as they approach the end of their life. The hospice is there for so much more than that.

My highlight of the day was meeting Jean. She is currently staying in the hospice for rehab until she is well enough to go back home, and she allowed me to sit in when she was having a reflexology session. The way she talked about the staff and volunteers, and the amazing care they give her, really made me think about what hospices actually do.

They also have a gym which people are able to use, there’s a salon offering beauty and hair treatments and they offer amazing support for families as well. I got to meet some of the fantastic staff who offer this support, and their passion for their job is just so humbling.

Feel super

I went along in my capacity as P&G Ambassador for the Feel Super campaign. By supporting this campaign, you can help Marie Curie provide more care to people like Jean up and down in the country in one of their nine hospices, or out in the community via their nursing service.

The great thing about the campaign is that it’s so easy to get involved and we’re not asking you to do anything over and above buying your everyday products at Superdrug.  It’s so simple, one product = one donation.
