How your collection helps us care

Just a couple of hours spent collecting for the Great Daffodil Appeal can make a huge difference to terminally ill patients and their families. In this short film, Lynne Murrell, a Marie Curie Senior Healthcare Assistant, explains how the time you spend collecting translates into much-needed care and support.

Lynne says: “We deal with the human side of nursing. To my mind, that’s what nursing is all about – being there for people in times of great stress.”

Sometimes, this can bring some unexpectedly uplifting moments. Lynne remembers arriving at a patient’s house in the countryside on the night of a meteor storm.

“I like watching the stars, particularly when they do spectacular things. My patient’s bedroom was facing in the right direction, so I was having little peeks through the curtain while he was sleeping. When he woke up, I told him there was a meteor storm going on. He asked me to open the curtains so he could watch.

“So we sat together and watched the meteor storm. It was fantastic – it couldn’t have been a better night. We just sat and watched and he said: ‘Well that was definitely one for my bucket list.’ I thought that was lovely.”
