Press release published

Today, P&G and Superdrug’s #FeelSuper campaign returns with the support of ambassadors Frankie Bridge and Marvin Humes and the launch of the campaign’s first ever charity song helping to raise money for the UK’s leading terminal illness charity, Marie Curie.

Frankie Bridge and Marvin Humes launch the first ever #FeelSuper song in aid of Marie Curie

This uplifting new sound track to the #FeelSuper campaign, features vocals from nine Marie Curie Nurses and lyrics inspired by the experiences of musician Ben Buddy Slack, from The Swan Song Project, who helps patients at the Marie Curie hospice in Bradford write and record their own original songs. The song has been launched by Frankie and Marvin in celebration of the return of the long-standing #FeelSuper campaign, where 1 P&G product = 1 donation to Marie Curie, exclusively at Superdrug and Superdrug.com from the 19th September – 16th October 2018.

Since its launch in 2015, P&G and Superdrug’s #FeelSuper campaign has raised an impressive £570,000 for Marie Curie, the charity which provides care and support for people and their families living with a terminal illness. This has enabled Marie Curie to launch a free and confidential telephone support line, which has now taken over 25,000 calls from patients and their families. But with one in four people across the country still not able to receive the support they need at the end of their life1, there is so much more to do. So, as the 1 product = 1 donation campaign once again hits the shelves of Superdrug, P&G has introduced another easy way to raise even more money for Marie Curie with every view of the #FeelSuper song video triggering a donation to Marie Curie2.

It’s the little things that make us #FeelSuper

The music video – filmed on location at the famous Dean Street Studios in London, Soho features #FeelSuper ambassadors Frankie and Marvin, Marie Curie Nurses and volunteers – and documents the recording of the song which encourages us all to recognise and celebrate those everyday little things in life which make us feel super.

Annie Wade a Marie Curie Nurse who features on the #FeelSuper song says; The #FeelSuper song makes us all recognise how important it is to celebrate the little moments in life - something I know first-hand as a Marie Curie nurse. We provide palliative care as well as much needed physical and emotional support to families across the country 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but so often it really is the small things that make the biggest difference. Making a cup of tea for a family member in the middle of night, playing a patient one of their favourite songs or just sitting with them so that they know someone is there with them are just a few of the things I do to try and give much needed comfort and support to patients and their loved ones.”

Lighting up the nation with a #FeelSuper sound track

As passionate champions of the campaign, Frankie and Marvin hope the #FeelSuper song will inspire the country to get involved and help raise as much as possible. In fact, new research3 shows that listening to music is one of the top 10* ways us Brits ‘feel super’ with 75% of Brits saying an upbeat song lifts their spirits. The same research revealed that the magic of music becomes even more powerful in our darkest hours with over a third of those surveyed who have had personal experience of a loved one living with terminal illness (34%) agreeing that upbeat music or a favourite song gave a moment of respite and helped made their loved one ‘feel super’ – if only briefly.

The research conducted in September 2018 on behalf of the #FeelSuper campaign, also outlines how 77% of people surveyed who have had personal experience of a loved one living with terminal illness agree; ‘It's the small things which make a big difference and help you 'feel super’.

Commenting on the launch, Frankie Bridge says: “It’s so exciting to be part of such an amazing campaign – watching the gorgeous Marie Curie Nurses bring this fantastic song to life and listening to the lyrics inspired by Ben’s unique experience with the charity, is so special. Being able to show off just how amazing they all are is something very important to me. This time it’s not about Marvin or me, it’s about the Nurses and Ben who have given us such a wonderful reason to ‘feel super’, whoever we are and whatever situation we might be facing - it’s something I’ll always remember.”

Marvin adds: “It’s all about the people that make a difference – the Marie Curie Nurses, volunteers and staff. The #FeelSuper song embodies what we are trying to do here – celebrate the people that are on the ground, making a difference every day and inspire the rest of us to do our bit and support them. It’s all pretty easy – just by heading into Superdrug stores or online or listening to this amazing song you can give someone else the opportunity to feel super because all the donations really count.”

Hannah Drew, P&G Customer & Consumer Brand Manager UK and Ireland: “We are incredibly proud of the significant amount of money #FeelSuper has raised already for this amazing charity, however, we know there is always more to do. So, this year, by giving people a special ‘feel super moment’ through this song, we are hoping to inspire even more involvement and drive further donations to raise as much as possible for the vital services Marie Curie provides. Our partnership with Superdrug is one we’re really proud of to help Marie Curie continue to be a force for good in communities across the country.”

Dr Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Marie Curie, says: “The #FeelSuper campaign has raised a tremendous amount of money for the charity so far and I’m sure this year’s campaign will be no different. This money is crucial in helping us continue providing our vital services which provide care and support to people across the UK living with a terminal illness. The song which has been created this year is really inspiring and reflects the light and hope that our Marie Curie Nurses offer to thousands of people every year.”

Simon Comins, Superdrug Commercial Director added: “This song brings the #FeelSuper campaign to life, and I’d like to say thank you to the Marie Curie Nurses and Ben for their help. Getting involved in the campaign is so easy so there are no excuses, our customers, colleagues and supporters have now raised over £4.5m for Marie Curie and it’s great that P&G and #FeelSuper are adding more to this great total for a very worthy cause.”
